RARA Factory raises €3.2M seed round to replace rare earths with physics-driven AI
Our deep-tech spin-off of Ca' Foscari University of Venice has closed a €3.2 million seed round to accelerate the discovery of new materials that can stand in for rare earths, designed by AI grounded in physics and proven in the lab.
The round is backed by Primo Capital and CDP Venture Capital SGR, as part of Italy's National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR), together with a group of business angels.
The new capital will scale up our high-throughput experimental capabilities, funding laboratory infrastructure and instrumentation to synthesize and characterize new materials for high-tech industries, and reducing their reliance on rare earths and critical raw materials.
Founded in 2024 by four Ca' Foscari professors, RARA Factory has built a proprietary platform that brings together artificial intelligence and experimental materials physics, generating real experimental data at scale. To date we have created and tested nearly 10,000 new materials, the foundation on which our AI models are trained.
In 2024 RARA Factory was also one of five startups selected for the Motor Valley Accelerator in Modena. We have already signed our first commercial contract, along with collaboration agreements with Italian and international companies.
“By combining physics-driven AI with large-scale experimental validation, we aim to design new materials in days rather than years.”Stefano Bonetti, Founder and Professor of Experimental Condensed Matter Physics
“Our proprietary dataset will soon be ready to meet the demand for rare-earth alternatives across strategic industrial sectors.”Michele Bugliesi, Founder and former Rector of Ca' Foscari University of Venice
